DENVER, Sept. 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Statline, a non-profit organization that facilitates organ and tissue donation, transplantation and research, today unveiled a new donor referral application programming interface (API) that will help organ procurement organizations (OPOs), tissue banks and eye banks make faster decisions within the donation process to save and heal more lives.
Statline’s Donation Support Center works with its clients, managing organ, eye and tissue donor referrals from hospitals throughout the U.S. and Canada. The organization has processed more than 10 million donor referrals.
Statline captures critical donor information through its proprietary software, StatTrac. It has historically shared this information on a periodic delivery or pick up schedule via File Transfer Protocol. The new API speeds this process by providing near real-time access to StatTrac referral data and easy integration of that data into a variety of software systems. Faster access to this information allows OPOs, tissue banks and eye banks to streamline their processes, making life-saving and healing decisions more adeptly.
“Our communications and technology systems handle more organ, eye and tissue donor data than any other organization’s in the world,” said Alison Smith, Statline’s Executive Director. “Our team developed this new technology at the request of our OPO, tissue and eye bank clients to help them respond to donor referrals in a more efficient and effective way. By publishing data for real-time consumption, we can better support the missions of our clients and maximize the gift of donation to save and heal as many lives as possible.”
Statline is working closely with its clients to develop secure web services connecting to the StatTrac data being published. Over time, more data will be made available, and clients will decide what fields they require and how to make decisions as the data is brought into their organizations.
